उन्होंने लोकसभा क्षेत्र रायगढ़ (छत्तीसगढ़) से 1999 में 13वीं लोकसभा, 2004 में 14वीं लोकसभा, 2009 में 15वीं लोकसभा और 2014 में 16वीं लोकसभा के सदस्य के रूप में उल्लेखनीय कार्य किए। विष्णुदेव साय ने 27 मई 2014 से 2019 तक केन्द्रीय राज्य मंत्री के रूप में इस्पात, खान, श्रम व रोजगार मंत्रालय का प्रभार संभाला।
किसान परिवार से हैं विष्णुदेव साय
विष्णुदेव साय मूलतः किसान परिवार से हैं, लेकिन उनके परिवार के राजनीतिक अनुभव का लाभ उन्हें मिला। उनके बड़े पिताजी स्वर्गीय नरहरि प्रसाद साय, स्वर्गीय केदारनाथ साय लंबे समय से राजनीति में रहे। स्वर्गीय नरहरि प्रसाद लैलूंगा और बगीचा से विधायक और बाद में सांसद चुने गए।
संचार राज्यमंत्री के रूप में काम किया
